Our story
Munich's No.1 beer brand, now in Australia.
Paulaner is the biggest name in Munich beer, poured in over 80 countries, and the most served beer at Munich's own Oktoberfest.
Bavarian conviviality
The epitome of the Munich beer garden.
'Gemütlichkeit' is one of those German words that doesn't translate neatly, the closest is a sense of warmth, comfort and easy hospitality. At a Paulaner Biergarten, tables for ten are the norm, and it's perfectly normal, expected even, to share one with strangers and raise a glass together.
Beer gardens have been part of Bavarian life for more than 200 years, and they exist because of a 16th-century fire hazard. Summer brewing kept causing serious fires, so a 1539 law confined brewing to the cooler months, meaning breweries had to make enough beer each winter to last the whole summer. The fix was deep cellars, kept cool by gravel and shaded by chestnut trees planted on top. Once people started picking up their beer straight from those cellars to drink on the spot, brewers rolled out simple tables and benches under the trees, and the Biergarten was born.
That same spirit of natural, informal, unhurried hospitality is what Private Label Liquor is bringing to Australian tables today.
